LORD'S PRAYER

THE PRAYER OF JESUS

The Lord's Prayer is the most famous prayer of Christians; it should go back to Jesus himself. Two gospels tell of how Jesus taught His disciples to pray. Our Lord's Prayer unites worldwide Christianity and has been translated into many languages. In every service it is spoken, and the bells ring.

Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come.Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Our daily bread Give us today. And forgive us our guilt, as we forgive our debtors. And do not tempt us, but deliver us from evil. For yours are the kingdom, and the power and the glory for eternity. Amen.

(Matthew Gospel 6: 9-13)

PSALM 23

The Lord is My Shepherd

The 23rd Psalm

"The Lord is my shepherd" is one of the most famous and popular texts in the Bible. Many confirmands learn it by heart. The psalm speaks of God, who looks after the welfare of his sheep like a shepherd. Psalms are the Bible's song and prayer book, containing texts for many situations in life. In evangelical worship, psalms are often prayed alternately.

The LORD is my shepherd,

I will not lack. He grazes me on a green meadow

And leads me to the fresh water. He refreshes my soul.

He leads me on the right street For the sake of his name.

And though I already wandered in the dark valley, I fear no misfortune;

Because you are with me, your stick and staff are comforting me.

You prepare a table In front of me in the face of my enemies.

You salve my head with oil and give me a full dose.

Goodness and mercy will follow me all my life,

And I will abide

WHY PRAY?

Turn to God

He who prays turns to God. Anyone can do that in his own way, in his own words or in the words of known prayers, like the Lord's Prayer. Many clap hands or fold to gather - some close their eyes. There are many occasions and reasons for personal prayers. One can speak intercessory prayers for the sick and suffering or give thanks for all the beauty in the world

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIAN ETHICS

Individual commandments are familiar to many in religious education: Thou shalt not kill. Or: You should honor mother and father. According to biblical tradition, God has given the Ten Commandments to the Prophet Moses on Mount Sinai. They are handed down in the Old Testament. The commandments regulate the attitude of man to God and fellow human beings.

The First Commandment

I am the Lord, your God. Thou shalt have no other Gods before me.

The Second Commandment

Thou shalt not abuse the name of the Lord thy God.

The third commandment

You shall sanctify the holiday.

The Fourth Commandment

You shall honor your father and mother.

The fifth commandment

Thou shalt not kill.

The sixth commandment

Thou shalt not commit adultery.

The seventh commandment

Thou shalt not steal.

The eighth commandment

Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

The Ninth Commandment

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house.

The Tenth Commandment

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, servant, servant, livestock, nor all that thy neighbor has.

THE DOUBLE COMMANDMENT OF LOVE THE HIGHEST COMMANDMENTS

When a scribe asks Jesus about the highest commandment in the Bible, he answers with the double commandment of love. With this commandment he summarizes the Ten Commandments. According to this, love for God and love for one's neighbor are equally important.

The highest commandment is this:

"Hear, O Israel,

The Lord our God is the Lord alone,

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your Heart,

With all your soul, with your entire mind, and with all your strength."

Deuteronomy 6: 4-5). The other is this:

"Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself" (Lev. 19:18).

There is no other commandment greater than this. (Gospel of Mark 12: 29-31 verses)
